Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot on May 19, 2018, in a beautiful ceremony in Windsor, but not everyone remembers that day with joy. In fact, some royal photographers criticized the atmosphere, describing the wedding as miserable and noting that they felt quite unwelcome. While the couple celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary recently, the mood for those covering the event was much less cheerful.
Royal photographer Arthur Edwards from The Sun shared his thoughts, stating that Prince Harry’s unfriendly demeanor toward the media was evident even then. He struggled to capture good wedding photos because Harry seemed determined to keep the tabloids at bay. Edwards lamented, “It was the worst royal wedding I have ever been to because Harry was determined to keep the tabloids as far away from him as possible.” He mentioned that the photographers had to use long lenses from a distance and felt sidelined, explaining, “When they passed me in the carriage, they looked the other way.”
Edwards also highlighted that it wasn’t just him feeling this way; the entire British press was treated poorly. He speculated that Harry’s anger stemmed from some harsh remarks about Meghan during their engagement. Less than two years after their wedding, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the world by announcing their decision to step back from royal duties and eventually relocated to California.
A body language analyst, Darren Stanton, offered insights into Harry’s nerves on his wedding day. He observed that while Harry tried to appear confident, he couldn’t hide his anxiousness, especially while waiting at the altar with his brother, William. “You could see his face blushing,” Stanton noted, adding that Harry relaxed significantly when Meghan arrived.
In contrast, Meghan exuded calm and confidence. Stanton remarked on her poised demeanor, saying, “These are all signs of feeling at peace and confident in themselves. Meghan puts Harry at ease.” Her composed presence seemed to help ease the tension of the day.
Just a year after their wedding, on May 6, 2019, Harry and Meghan welcomed their son, Archie. Their daughter, Lilibet, was born on June 4, 2021, in California after they stepped back from royal life. So far, Lilibet has only visited the UK once, marking a new chapter in the family’s life away from the royal spotlight.
